No Chan-young, the founder of Lowkey and a former real estate researcher, developed a keen interest in coffee and in 2010 opened a small specialty roastery café called “Coffee Jeombbang” near Shin-Hak University in Gwangjang-dong, Seoul, where he honed his skills and expertise.
From 2013, he served as an international judge for the Cup of Excellence (COE)—the world’s premier specialty coffee competition—evaluating coffees in countries including Mexico, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Rwanda, Brazil, Colombia, Burundi, Nicaragua, and Guatemala over a span of seven years.
During this time, in 2017, he relocated his roastery to Deokso, Namyangju (323 Sure-ro, Wabu-eup, Gyeonggi Province) and opened a new café. In 2018, he expanded further by opening a new café in Seongsu-dong, Seoul, and rebranded the original Coffee Jeombbang as Lowkey, laying the foundation for a growing business. Today, Lowkey operates six café locations, three of which are concentrated in Seongsu.
When heading to the Lowkey Seongsu branch, it’s crucial to check which location you’re going to. The branch I’m featuring is at 1F & B1, 6 Yeonmujang 3‑gil, Seongdong‑gu, Seoul — a two‑level café (ground floor + basement) in Seongsu.

Located just a 6-minute walk from Exit 4 of Seongsu Station (Line 2) and close to the Dior Seongsu flagship, Lowkey Seongsu Branch is the very first Lowkey cafe opened in Seongsu in 2018. Among the three Lowkey cafes in Seongsu, this location stands out for its unique mix of vintage architecture and contemporary design.

The cafe is housed in a red-brick building, making it easy to spot from the street. Lowkey Seongsu Branch occupies both the 1st floor and basement level (B1). The first floor features the main counter, cozy sofas, and side tables, while the basement level opens up into a spacious hall with multiple tables and chairs. Its interior retains the building’s original concrete textures and exposed walls, creating an atmosphere where Seoul’s industrial past meets modern minimalism.
Order your coffee at the first-floor counter before heading downstairs. Lowkey Seongsu Branch perfectly blends Seongsu’s trendy vibe with a calm, minimalist charm, serving high-quality specialty coffee roasted in-house. The skilled baristas, friendly service, and curated display of coffee tools and accessories all reflect Lowkey’s dedication to craftsmanship and authenticity.

Because it’s a favorite among local residents, the cafe is often busy—especially during lunch hours (1:00–2:00 PM) when office workers come for a post-meal coffee break. We ordered a specialty hand-drip coffee and an iced Americano, then found a comfortable seat on the basement floor. The B1 level is ideal for reading alone or having a quiet conversation with friends.

Despite its cozy, neighborhood vibe, the coffee quality here is top-tier, rivaling Seoul’s finest specialty roasteries. For travelers seeking an authentic local cafe experience in Seoul, this is a must-visit spot that many tourists still don’t know about.
